How is BASES different from other Programs?
BASES was founded by Scott and Celia Kelly in 1993 to address the gaps in services for young people in Northwest lower Michigan. Most staff at BASES are in long-term recovery themselves. BASES approach involves research-based and proven methods that have been effective in working with substance use disorders. We utilize a developmental model of recovery and approach addiction as a brain illness that needs to be addressed on a bio-psycho-social level.
How much is a drug and PBT test?
Drug tests are $25 for a 10 panel drug test. An EtG (long-term alcohol test) is $35; pbt tests cost $3. You can pay with cash, check or credit card.
I have publicly funded insurance (Medicaid, MiChild, Healthy Michigan). How do I sign up for services?
Let us know this information when you call in to set up an appointment and we will get your insurance number and social security number over the phone in addition to other information that we will need. If you need help signing up for public insurance, we can assist you with that process as well. With these publicly funded insurance programs based in our 21 county region, all services, except drug testing, are covered at no cost to the family.
How is addiction treated?
We address addiction with three components – abstinence, lifestyle change, and learning. Abstinence from all mood altering chemicals initially and as more skills are developed we also include abstinence from additional unhealthy behaviors. Lifestyle change involves finding safe and drug free activities and friends. Learning involves ongoing stress management, problem solving, and lifelong self improvement to prevent relapse.
